Why did Jesus come to earth?

INTRODUCTION

JESUS OFTEN SAID HE WAS SENT TO EARTH AND CAME FROM HEAVEN-

WE CAN ASK THE QUESTION WHY AND WHAT DID GOD HAVE IN MIND FOR HIM TO DO, AS HE ONCE SAID THAT HE CAME TO FINISH GOD’S WORK. THIS SECTION WILL SUMMARISE 7 DIFFERENT REASONS THAT CAN BE FOUND IN THE GOSPELS, ALL OUT UNDER DIFFERENT HEADINGS WITH RELEVANT SCRIPTURES

There are seemingly many different reasons why Jesus came to Earth; however, when all the teachings of Jesus are taken into account, there should be a limited number of reasons when carefully examined. This could take many years of study, as in my case, and still have no definite answer.

However, when one seeks wisdom and revelation, and turns to the Holy Spirit for help, answers will come down in mysterious ways-

A revelation which came in a dream at 4 am one morning,

In response to my search for clarity amongst many notes that were accumulated over a period of 12 years, as I was studying the life of Jesus Christ; the answer appeared as follows in a dream

In my dream I saw a slot machine in which the wheels were turning around– and as each one stopped, 7 P`s appeared exactly as shown with the names as described. This dream revelation helped me to complete the picture I needed to put the parts of the puzzle together-as I looked, I clearly saw the description of each P as outlined below. So this teaching is the result of the answer to my prayer for edification and clarification.

There are 7 P`s as outlined below in Jesus mission to Earth

He Came To Reveal The Following

  1.  P1- Gods person, and his kingdom
  2. P2 -Gods plan for the world
  3. P3 -Gods purpose for the world
  4. P4 -Gods promises for the world/gifts  (peace, love and harmony)
  5. P5 -Gods prerequisites for believers obeying commands of Christ,
  6. P6 -Gods power for believers (Results of being filled with His spirit)
  7. P7 -Gods perils attached to sin and unbelief

Jesus came to earth to reveal the- 1/7

P1.   PERSON OF GOD-HIS NATURE

The following is a short list of the person of God as described by Jesus, His Son

Is an Eternal God

“And this is eternal life that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent. Jn. 17:3

Is a God with a Kingdom

But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.  Mt 6.33:

 Is a living God

Simon Peter answered and said, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.”   Mt 16:16

Is the God of the impossible –

Jesus looked at them and said to them, “With men this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.” Mt.19:26

Is a loving God

Jesus said to him, “‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and.. your mind.’ Mt.22:37

Is God of the living

“He is not God of the dead, but the God of the living’.  Mk.12:27`

Is Creator –

Of all things- “for in those days there will be tribulation, such as has not been since the beginning of the                creation which God created until this time, nor ever shall be.                                                                  Mk.13:19

Is a Merciful God

-to give his people the knowledge of salvation through the forgiveness of their sins, because of the tender                  mercy of our God     lk.17.1

Is worshipped by angels

Suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of heavenly hosts praising god

Is a God who heals

“Return to your own house, and tell what great things God has done for you”   Lk.8:39

Is a Majestic God-

And they were all amazed at the majesty of God     Lk.9:43

Is Holy-

– So Jesus said to him, “Why do you call Me good? No one is good but One, that is, God. Lk.18:19

Is Spirit-

“God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth”   Jn.4:24

Is a God of Glory

Jesus said to her, “……. You would see the glory of God?”   Jn.11:40

DISCIPLES MINISTRY-They had a different perspective of Jesus mission to Earth

 Is a vengeful God –

Let no one deceive you with empty words, because of these things the wrath of God comes       Eph.5:6

Is the receiver of our spirit-

As they stoned Stephen he was calling on God and saying, “Lord Jesus, receive my spirit.”  Acts 7:59

Is a jealous God

Then immediately an angel of the Lord struck him, because he did not give glory to God. And he was eaten by

worms and died.  Acts 12.23

Is a graceful -God

-Now when the congregation had broken up, many of the Jews and devout proselytes followed Paul and     Barnabas who spoke to them persuaded them to continue in the grace of God.   Acts 13:43

GOD IS A CHANGER OF OUR CHARACTER

 God of patience

-The God of patience and comfort grant you to be like–minded toward one another, according to Christ Jesus,   Ro 15:5

These are just some of the characteristics of the Person of God, our Heavenly Father, as taught by Jesus.

P2.   PLAN OF GOD FOR MANKIND

To save the world

He sent His son, For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.    Jn. 3v17

To reconcile man with God

-and through him, to reconcile to himself all things, whether things on earth or things in heaven, by making peace through his blood, shed on the cross     Col. 1V20

For Jesus to lay down His life

“No one takes it from Me, but I lay it down of Myself. I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it again. This command I have received from my Father.      Jn. 10 v18

To finish the work of the Father

-But I have a greater witness than John’s; for the works which the Father has given Me to finish. The very works that I do bear witness of Me, that the Father has sent Me. Jn. 5 v36

“And He who sent Me is with Me. The Father has not left Me alone, for I always do those things that please Him.” Jn.8 v29

To grant those who believe eternal life

For God so loved the world that he sent his son, so that whoever believed would not perish.    Jn.3.16

“His command is everlasting life- whatever I speak, just as the Father has told Me, so I speak.”   Jn.12 v50

To fulfill all law and prophecy

“Do not think that I came to destroy the Law or the Prophets. I did not come to destroy but to fulfill.  Mt.5 v17

To reveal the Father of Abraham

“If God was your father,” said Jesus, “you would love me, for I came from God and arrived here.  didn’t come on my own. He sent me.  Jn.8 v42

To choose uneducated people to continue with His message

“If you were of the world, the world would love its own. Yet because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hates you.    Jn.15 v19

P5      PRE-REQUIREMENTS OF GOD TO ENTER HEAVEN

Must earnestly seek the Kingdom of God

But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.                    Mt.6.33

You must be born again

Jesus said, “You’re absolutely right. Take it from me: Unless a person is born from above, it’s not possible to see what I’m pointing to—to God’s kingdom.”    Jn.3.3

Jesus said, “You’re not listening. I say it again. Unless a person submits to this original creation—the ‘wind              hovering over the water’ creation, the invisible moving the visible, a baptism into a new life—it is not possible        to enter God’s kingdom.    Jn.3.5

“So don’t be so surprised when I tell you that you have to be ‘born from above, out of this world, so to speak     Jn.3.7

Must worship God through your spirit

“God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.”   Jn.4.24
Must follow Jesus

“If anyone serves Me, let him follow Me; where I am, My servant will be also   Jn.12.26

Must enter the Kingdom through the narrow road of the cross

Enter by the narrow gate; wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destructionMt.7.13

Must love one another

This is My commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you.    Jn.15.12

“And you also will bear witness, because you have been with Me from the beginning.     Jn.15.27

Must acknowledge you are spiritually dependant on God

“Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Mt 5

4 Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted.

Must constantly desire right standing before God

6 Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be filled.

Must have a heart of compassion for the lost and sinners

7 Blessed are the merciful, for they shall obtain mercy.

Must be desirous of the need for God to cleanse us from all unrighteousness

8 Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.

Must bring peace to a troubled world

9 Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God.

Must be persecuted only for doing the things of God, and respond in kindness

10 Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

11 “Blessed are you when they revile and persecute you, and say all kinds of evil against you falsely for My sake.

Must be a light to those in darkness and lead them out of darkness      Mt.5.16

“Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.

“For I say to you, that unless your righteousness exceeds the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees,  you will by no means enter the kingdom of heaven.

P6   POWER OF GOD AVAILABLE TO BELIEVERS

Jesus promised power to his disciples

-And when He had called His twelve disciples to Him, He gave them power over unclean spirits, to cast them          out, and to heal all kinds of sickness and all kinds of disease.  Mt.1.1

He called His twelve disciples together and gave them power and authority over all demons, and to cure Diseases, and to have power to heal sicknesses Lk.9.1

He called the twelve to Himself, and began to send them out two by two, and gave them power over  unclean     spirits. Mk.6.7

Not only power, but authority

Jesus answered and said to them, “You are mistaken, not knowing the Scriptures nor the power of God.    Mt.22.29

-Behold, I give you the authority to trample on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy,       and nothing shall by any means hurt you. lk .10.19

Jesus himself had to have this power

Jesus returned in the power of the Spirit to Galilee, and news of Him went out everywhere       Lk.4.14

On a certain day, as He was teaching, there were Pharisees and teachers of the law sitting by, who had come out of every town of Galilee, Judea, and Jerusalem. And the power of the Lord was present to heal them    Lk.5.17

How did the disciples receive this power?

“But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in               Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth  Acts.1.8

What happened when they received it

With great power the apostles gave witness to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus     Acts.4.33

In mighty signs and wonders, by the power of the Spirit of God, so that from Jerusalem and round about to          Illyricum I have fully preached the gospel of Christ.  Rom.15.19

And my speech and my preaching were not with persuasive words of human wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power,   1Cor.2.4

For our gospel did not come to you in word only, but also in power, and in the Holy Spirit and in much assurance, as you know what kind of men we were among you for your sake.  1Th.1.5

The Kingdom of God is not about words but power   1Cor.4.20

WHAT ELSE IS NECESSARY TO RECEIVE POWER?

Faith- to receive

He touched their eyes, saying, “According to your faith let it be to you.”  Mt.9.29

Jesus said to them, “Because of your unbelief; for assuredly, I say to you, if you have faith as a mustard seed,          you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and nothing will be impossible for you.      Mt.17.20.

He said to her, “Daughter, your faith has made you well. Go in peace, and be healed of your affliction.”Mk.5.34

And the apostles said to the Lord, “Increase our faith.” Lk.17.5

Jesus said to him, “Receive your sight; your faith has made you well.”  Lk.18.42

Believe  to receive

Jesus said to him, “If you can believe, all things are possible to him who believes.”    Mk.9.23

Immediately the father of the child cried out and said with tears, “Lord, I believe; help my unbelief!”  Mk.9.24

I say to you, whatever things you ask when you pray, believe that you receive them, and you will have them.        Mk.11.24

The gospel has power

I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes,            for the Jew first and also for the Greek.    Ro.1.16

Anything else?

....having a form of godliness but denying its power. And from such people turn away!     2Ti.3.5

What about us?

Your faith should not be in the wisdom of men but in the power of God   1Co. 2:5.

These signs will follow those who believe: In My name they will cast out demons; and speak with new tongues;   Mk.16:17

“Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do he will do also; and greater works than these he will do, because I go to My Father.  Jn.14.12-14

If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be given you.      Jn.15 V7

P7    PERILS OF DISOBEDIENCE TO GOD

We were all sinners, destined for the eternal fires of hell

“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not  perish but have eternal life.   Jn. 3.16

What do we have to do to avoid this terrible sentence

Unless you are born again – you will not see, or enter, the Kingdom of heaven      Jn. 3.3

If we have been born again, what then?

No-one who is born of God will continue to sin, because God’s seed remains in him , he cannot go on sinning, because he has been born of God. 1JN.3V.9

-If your right eye causes you to sin, gouge it out and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one part of  your body than for your whole body to be thrown into hell  Mt.5.29

-I tell you, no! But unless you repent, you too will all perish.   Lk.13.3

Wait-there is even more-

“Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire.  Mt.7.19

“But the cowardly, unbelieving, abominable, murderers, sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars      shall have their part in the lake which burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second death.”    Re.21.8

Is my behaviour important

“But I say to you that whoever is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger of the judgment.              And whoever says to his brother, ‘Raca!’ shall be in danger of the council. But whoever says, ‘You fool!’ shall be in danger of hell fire.     Mt.5.22

“For by your words you will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned.”   Mt.12.37

How important are ‘works’-can they save us?

For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—       Eph.2.8   For we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.  Eph.2.9

We are saved for good works

For we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do   Eph.2.10

The son of man will come in the glory of His father with his angels, and then He will reward each according to his works.   Mt.16.27

“Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your father in heaven.   Mt.5.16

ARE WORKS GOOD ENOUGH?

Not everyone that says unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that does the will of my Father which is in heaven.  Mt.7.21

Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name?-and in Your name have cast out devils? And in your name done many wonderful works?   And then will I say to them, I never knew you: depart from me, you workers of lawlessness. Mt.7.22

Does being ‘religious’ help?

(Possible definition- Going to church, reading the bible, praying out loud, fasting, tithing, singing etc)

“Serpents, brood of vipers! How can you escape the condemnation of hell?   Mt.23.33

If we continue to sin, what then?

“If your hand causes you to sin, cut it off. It is better for you to enter into life maimed, rather than having  two hands, to go to hell, into the fire that shall never be quenched––Mk.9.43

For if God did not spare the angels who sinned, but cast them down to hell and delivered them into chains  of darkness, to be reserved for judgment;   2Pe.2.4

“Where -‘their worm does not die, and the fire is not quenched.’    Mk.9.44

“But the sons of the kingdom will be cast out into outer darkness. There will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.”Mt.8.12

Summary –Why did Jesus come to earth

THINGS TO REMEMBER-

P1, P2 and P3-Person, Plan and Purpose of God

  1. Jesus was sent to earth on a mission, and clearly said so on many occasions
  2. God had a plan and purpose in doing so, to save mankind from hell, and bring them into His kingdom
  3. The Jews were originally the chosen race, but had not been able to stay the course
  4. That’s why Jesus said He came for the lost sheep of Israel
  5. He knew before time that they would not accept Him as the coming Messiah; only a few would do so
  6. God then had decided to enter into a second, and new covenant, with mankind
  7. This covenant was to be sealed in blood, as before, with the blood of Jesus
  8. This meant that Jesus had to carry out that plan, and proclaim the good news of the kingdom of God
  9. Not only to preach the good news, but to demonstrate the power of God by means of miracles
  10. At the same time, He confirmed His word by healing all who were sick and raising the dead
  11. There were 7 reasons embodied into Jesus arrival on earth, as we have seen in the start of this module
  12. God would not only reveal His Person and love for mankind, but His plan and purpose for sending Jesus

P4 and P5-Promises and Pre requirements of God

  1. At the same time, Jesus would bring promises and pre-requirements for the citizenship of heaven
  2. Entry into the kingdom was not automatic; rather entry into hell was by default, as we see in Jn. 3.16
  3. The promises and benefits of being a kingdom subject are many, and vital to people on earth living in darkness
  4. Mankind had no role models, who were at best corrupt and deceitful
  5. Jesus entered into this world as the perfect role model, one who could inspire and give the world hope
  6. Not only hope, but peace and joy, in spite of our troubles Mt. 11.28
  7. Even more, He would send us a helper, His Holy Spirit, who would reside in us, and give us direction
  8. For this to happen, we would have to undergo a heart transplant-to acknowledge our sins and turn to God
  9. This involved a new way of living, and by true repentance and desire to turn over a new leaf
  10. If this was sincere in intent, we were assured that heaven would send down a shower and fill us with His spirit
  11. In this way we would be born again, made new in our spirit, and so qualify to enter heaven  Jn. 3v3

  P6-Power of God

24. This would only be the beginning, as we would now receive power by the Holy Spirit to overcome evil

25. We were automatically granted power to do the same things as Jesus did, and even greater  Jn.14.12

26. The only problem from that point on would be whether we ourselves would stay the course, not like the Jewish nation

27. Jesus said that only those who persevered till the end would be saved, so salvation was an ongoing ‘work’

P7-Perils of disobedience to God

28. Finally, we see that we could be in trouble again, and even worse, if we do not persevere

READ THE FOLLOWING VERSES AND DISCUSS THE QUESTIONS

P1– Jesus came to show the person and character of God

God of the old testament was only made known through prophetic revelations to the prophets of old; nobody ever claimed to know God on a personal level, and what God was really like-Jesus said He knew God as His father, and was able to give insight to the nature and character of God from personal experience

  1. Mt.6.33Where does God reside; and what is His title

P2- Jesus came to reveal the Plan of God for mankind

Jesus came to earth because God, His father, sent Him on a mission, to carry out His Fathers work on earth, to proclaim the good news of the kingdom and  to demonstrate His authority by doing miracles

  3. Jn. 3.16-We were to be given a gift; how did that work

P3  Jesus came to reveal the purpose of God for mankind

Jesus was sent for a purpose by His Father, to finish His work on earth in order to bring glory to His Father;.             He was to carry out the will of His Father on earth, by establishing His kingdom on earth

Jesus brought good news to earth for all who believed in Him and His message-and that there would be benefits and rewards, even power to perform miracles like He did-all this to His Father’s glory

10.  Jn. 5:24  “I tell you the truth, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life and will not be condemned; he has crossed over from death to life; God’s gift is freely available to all, do we have to ‘earn’ it

  1. Lk. 24.49-The promise of the Father was to give us a gift; how did His disciples get it

P5  Jesus came to reveal pre-requirements to enter into heaven

When Jesus entered the earth by God’s Holy Spirit, there was one thing necessary to re- enter the Kingdom of God, which applies to every person wishing to enter- we would never see or enter heaven without this singular requirement. Jesus told Nicodemus He was going back, but Nicodemus would not go where He was going.

  1. Mt. 6.33-We are told to look for something; describe what it is and how to obtain it

P6  Jesus came to reveal the power available to all believers

Jesus knew we would be powerless to get to heaven on our own, and also not be able to withstand the attacks and wiles of the devil and his workers; so we were given power by the Holy Spirit to overcome the works of darkness, and demonstrate this with authority, with physical healings and deliverance in answer to our prayers.

  1. Jn. 14.12-14-If we believe in Jesus then we will receive power; how do we receive it
  2. Mt. 10.1-The disciples were given power to do miracles; how does one apply this power, and when
  3. Acts 1.8-What role does the Holy spirit play in a believers life; why is this necessary if we are good peopl

P7  Jesus came to reveal the perils of disobedience

Jesus tells us that whoever believes (and does what He says by keeping His commandments) will not perish but enter heaven and thereby live eternally in heaven, not in hell which is eternal death.

  1. Jn. 3.16 God’s mission statement is well known; why we were perishing, and how do we avoid this
  2. Mt. 7.21-good works are not enough to enter heaven; what is really needed

*****

I trust that you found these questions challenging, which is the main intention. If one desires to be a follower of Jesus Christ, then we need to know what He requires of us, and that these requirements actually come from God Himself. So if you wish to follow in Jesus footsteps and go to heaven one day, it is obvious we need to know as much as we can for the life of eternity we will spend somewhere when we leave our body.
