A REVIEW OF MY EARLY YEARS 1988-1994 AS A FOLLOWER OF JESUS–A RECORD OF SOME OF THE MANY WORKS CARRIED OUT BY HOLY SPIRIT

The following notes were discovered while going through my old notes, of my first five and a half years following Jesus since my mountain experience. It can give one an idea of what can happen with and to, those called by Jesus to be His disciples, and is meant solely to give glory to God because everything was due to the intervention of Holy Spirit.

The full story how this came to be, can be found in my testimony headed My Story which has more pictures- The majority occurred while building a Church at Vrygrond for 3 years, and helping build the Ark at Westlake also around 3 years-the balance would be while travelling around RSA as a Service Engineer for Pick and Pay. (All costs were self funded)

QUALIFICATIONS?

Continuous analytical study of the Bible, concentrating on the teachings of Jesus to guide me as to what and how to preach, teach and evangelise, and learning as I went along. More importantly, an ‘ordination’ or ‘baptism’ (infilling of the presence and power of God)  by the Holy Spirit of God to give me wisdom, guidance and power to do miracles and healings, and do what Jesus said His followers could do- and that was to do the same works He did and greater (John Ch 14. 12-14)

COMMUNITY

VRYGROND SQUATTER CAMP MUIZENBERG CAPE TOWN AROUND 1992

  1. Established Vrygrond Mission Church 1989 after evangelising the community for many months, and preaching full time for more than 3 years.
  2. Led various evangelistic crusades in Lavender Hill and other places
  3. Hired itinerant Pastor to assist with baptisms in river, funeral arrangements etc
  4. Established 4 soup kitchens for the poor children twice a week
  5. Set up a website for Vrygrond for donations
  6. Printed a monthly newspaper for community information
  7. Encouraged growing vegetables by handing out seed parcels, with prize for the best garden
  8. Negotiated with the council for roads, street lights etc on behalf of community
  9. Was appointed as presiding elder by community to oversee community issues
  10. Worked together with the ANC leaders while they were banned under apartheid, as well as the Dutch anti apartheid movement.
  11. Went from door to door witnessing, praying for people and handing out food parcels to those starving.
  12. Held children’s and old age pensioners parties at Easter and Christmas
  13. 4 disciples known operating as followers of Jesus
  14. 300 people approx led to Christ

THE ARK CITY OF REFUGE FOR 1000 HOMELESS AT WESTLAKE CAPE TOWN

  1. The Ark at Westlake was fully established after 3 years full time work starting with using my home as office for the first 6 months.
  2. Arranged rigging company to transport 4 containers of furniture sourced from the YMCA to the Ark for free
  3. Arranged with Mr Ackerman from Pick and Pay to hold a Charity drive at Clovelly golf course for R25 000 donation.
  4. Arranged for 30 homeless artisans to refurbish the Dolous ship, the largest floating library for no charge to Operation Mobilisation. (O.M.)
  5. Collected many homeless people and gave them a home at the Ark
  6. Over 1000 homeless were accommodated and given dignity
  7. Negotiated with Pollsmoor Prison authorities to hand over bungalows for about 300 people which were unoccupied
  8. Preached, ministered to many hundreds and played in worship band at the Ark
  9. 500 Bibles handed out
  10. 3 Kg tracts ( 10 000) handed out
  11. Wrote own tracts in English and Afrikaans
  12. Gospel recordings teaching tapes, hand wound tape players etc  in various languages handed to missionaries for schools and poor communities
  13. Read and studied gospels 33 times analytically
  14. Read 10 different Bibles
  15. Opened house to 40 people suffering from drugs, alcohol, depression etc

SPIRITUAL ASPECTS

  • Wrote 30 gospel songs with music
  • Wrote various tracts for hand out.
  • Moved in deliverances (from witchcraft, curses depression etc)
  • Moved in signs and wonders (weeping, falling, laughing etc)
  • Moved in miracles in Nature, (storms, weather, wind etc)
  • Moved in physical healings (Spines, Backs, Asthma Epilepsy etc)
  • Moved in spirit of Isaiah 61 (binding up broken hearted, Bondages etc)
  • Moved in dreams (Interpretations and guidance etc)
  • Moved in the Prophetic (RSA Leaders and others etc)
  • Moved in preaching (with power and unprepared messages etc)
  • Moved in Teaching and training (disciples, gifts of Holy Spirit etc)
  • Moved in spiritual languages ( for instruction, guidance)
  • Moved in spiritual warfare (intercessions, healings etc over a distance)
  • Moved around RSA visited many churches, bringing encouraging prophetic messages, often confirming the preachers messages beforehand, praying for healing etc

SEEM A BIT TOO MUCH?-YOU TOO CAN DO THE SAME!

The above experiences may seem a bit daunting for the average Christian, but I believe that my motivation was a desire to try somehow by some means to repay God from a heart overflowing with gratitude for the profound change in my life that was given me when I cried out to God in desperation to change my life. I know beyond a shadow of doubt that locked inside every believer is the ability to do what Jesus did. After all, Jesus said so Himself in John Ch 14 v 12-14 that “everyone who believes in Me CAN do what I do AND MORE”

ARE YOU GRATEFUL FOR YOUR SALVATION?

In the same way, every believer or follower of Jesus should at least be grateful for their salvation and inheriting heaven, and that the fruit of your salvation should be a life lived for Jesus no matter how small or inadequate one may feel. This is why Jesus has stated in various chapter that we need to bear fruit of some sort, which is essence is bringing lost souls into the Kingdom of Heaven
